Dr. GwenCarol Holmes
Passionate Educator Striving for Equity in Our Schools

About
Dr. GwenCarol Holmes has worked passionately for over 40 years to educate ALL students in numerous schools and districts all across the United States, both rural and urban, large and small. She has served as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, educational provider and researcher, chief academic officer, and superintendent.
She has facilitated the creation of cultures and systems that support equity as a teacher, as a principal of multiple schools including a reconstituted school, as a chief academic officer of a very diverse district, and as a superintendent of a district with large numbers of marginalized students.
She also worked as an education service provider and researcher at the Success for All Foundation and Johns Hopkins University where her work focused on the impact of a data-drive district reform model on student outcomes. The culmination of this work can be found in Slavin, R. E., Cheung, A., Holmes G., Madden, N., & Chamberlain, A. (2013). Effects of a Data-Driven District Reform Model on State Assessment Outcomes. American Educational Research Journal 50(2), 371-396.
Repeatedly her work has contributed to significantly improving achievement outcomes for marginalized students.
She currently lives with her husband in Las Vegas, NV where she delights in nurturing her grandchildren.
